Glass Sorting with Sesotec Sorting Systems at Schirmbeck Glasrecycling GmbH

Johann Schirmbeck Glasrecycling GmbH was established in the year 1992 in Schierling (Upper Palatinate) as Bavaria's fi rst fl at glass recycling plant. With 10 employees the plant at that time had a throughput capacity of 5-7 tons / hour.

In November 1996 a new combined recycling line for hollow and flat glass cullet was put into operation, processing hollow and flat glass from the regions of South Germany and Switzerland. Already one year later another recycling plant started operations in Kraubath an der Mur (Austria). In March 2007 the plants in Schierling and Kraubath were extended with two additional lines for hollow glass processing.

The branch in Immendingen (Baden Württemberg) that was started in August 2009 is used for the more efficient handling of transport volumes from nearby areas and from Switzerland.

Today the company operates three glass recycling plants in Schierling, Kraubath, and Immendingen. With more than 200 employees and a fleet of approx. 85 commercial vehicles the company every year recycles approx. 400,000 tons of glass (flat glass and hollow glass).

For many years Schirmbeck has been using machines and systems made by Sesotec (formerly S+S) in the plant that was planned by KRS Recycling Systems GmbH. At the Schierling plant glass sorting initially was performed with Sesotec SPEKTRUM systems.

At the IFAT 2014 trade fair the new K9 glass sorting system was presented for the first time, and today Schirmbeck Glasrecycling GmbH uses the K9 Basic and K9 Flash system versions for the sorting of waste glass in the hollow glass line.

The K9 systems are used for the colour separation of cullet starting from a grain size of five millimetres. They improve the quality in the recycling of fine, hollow, and flat glass and allow high throughput capacities.

At the Schierling plant the waste glass from the hollow glass line is sorted with three K9 glass sorting systems. One K9 FLASH system and two K9 BASIC systems are installed in a cascaded arrangement. K9 FLASH separates CSP (ceramics, stones, porcelain), and in the second stage one K9 Basic also performs CSP separation. In the last stage the second K9 Basic is used for colour separation.

The finished material is supplied to the glass-producing industry again. Material that has been sorted out is properly disposed of by external waste disposal companies.
