For over 335 years, Rubinmühle has been managed by the Rubin family, now in its 14th generation. At three locations – two in Baden and one in the Saxon Vogtland – around 250 employees are employed. Customers in Europe, as well as worldwide, are reliably and flexibly supplied with innovative products of the highest quality.
Constantly investing in innovations and the latest production technologies. The flexibility to produce many different products in various qualities makes Rubin Mühle so successful. A spirit of innovation and the quick anticipation of current market developments are central skills of the company and the basis for its successful corporate history.
The problem: Foreign bodies in production are possible
Metal detection technologies have been integrated into the production process for a long time. As the demands for quality become increasingly stringent, inspections at goods receipt were no longer sufficient. Several critical control points throughout the entire production were identified, and the use of improved technologies was required. It is characteristic of the Rubin family to always actively ensure they are up to date with the latest technology. For the company management, this is one of the most important tasks. The best possible detection performance for the inspection of cereal flakes was sought, and the company Sesotec offered several solutions that met the requirements.
The solution: Highest metal detection performance with HRF technology and with Artificial Intelligence (AI).
From conventional metal detection, through High-Resolution-Frequency-Technology (HRF) to Artificial Intelligence - Sesotec offers a technologically leading complete program that covers a wide range of products, conveying methods, and process stages. The requirements of Rubin Mühle for sensitivities are very high: in the free-fall application for iron 0.794mm, non-iron 0.8mm, stainless steel 1mm. In the conveyor belt application for iron 1mm, non-iron 1mm; stainless steel 1.3mm. The choice fell on the metal separator RAPID 6000 with HRF package for the free-fall application and on the metal detector INTUITY with THiNK-AI for the conveyor belt application.
The metal separator RAPID 6000 is used for the inspection of coarse, flaky, light, fibrous, brittle, and moist bulk materials and can be easily and quickly integrated into existing pipelines.
Thanks to innovative HRF technology, the devices have the highest detection sensitivity for all metals. The detection signal is transmitted and evaluated with a special frequency. In addition to iron and non-ferrous metals, even the smallest particles of non-magnetic stainless steel can be detected and automatically separated.
The tunnel metal detector INTUITY is built into conveyor belts and is equipped with THiNK software, which works based on Artificial Intelligence. As with the previous technology, multiple frequencies are applied simultaneously to the product to be inspected, but with AI technology, multiple detection thresholds are created, and all signals, including those outside the thresholds, are recognized as metal foreign bodies. The sensitivity and thus the detection accuracy are significantly increased.

The customer benefit: More safety in the entire production.
The unique metal detection solutions from Sesotec enable the highest detection performance at various stages of the process. All products are tested several times throughout the entire production process by Rubin Mühle, which positively impacts the purity of the cereal flakes.
"For a food manufacturer like Rubin Mühle, which must be future-ready in its production facilities, metal detectors with THiNK AI are the tool of choice. This technology helps us make our products safer, our processes simpler, and our production more profitable. In other words: a future-proof investment," says Pierre Adam, Head of Projects at Rubin Mühle.
