A Journey Through Our History
S+S electronic
Founded in 1976 as S+S electronic KG, Sesotec has continually expanded its expertise and product range. Subsidiaries and branches have been established worldwide. Initially, S+S focused on developing and manufacturing inductive and capacitive sensors.
The First Metal Separator
In 1980, the company launched the first metal separator, the ancestor of the RAPID series, laying the foundation for our leadership in the plastics industry. Throughout the 1980s, we developed systems for the glass recycling, textile, and packaging industries, while digital electronics also made their debut. In 1986, the first building at our current headquarters in Schönberg, Lower Bavaria, was constructed.
Ownership Change
In 1990, S+S was predominantly acquired by Hoesch AG, a major German steel and mining company from the Ruhr area, which was soon taken over by the Krupp Group. In 1993, Karl Eibl, Helmuth Frisch, Paul Dittrich, and Franz Greipl bought the company—now known as S+S Metallsuchgeräte und Recycling GmbH—back from the conglomerate, reestablishing it as an independent entity. Two of the new owners, Eibl and Frisch, who had previously held senior positions at S+S, took on the role of managing directors.
Global Expansion
Under the new leadership duo, the company experienced steady growth and began expanding internationally around the turn of the millennium: In 2001, the first overseas subsidiary was established in the UK. In 2004, S+S ventured into the Far East with a subsidiary in Singapore, followed by the USA in 2007. Sales offices were set up in many other countries.
New Constructions
When it comes to developing and manufacturing our detection and sorting systems, S+S (now Sesotec) has always relied exclusively on "Made in Germany".
This commitment led to extensive new construction at our Schönberg headquarters in the 2000s: multiple production halls, a new administration building, and a shipping hall were built, along with our Technology Center, where potential customers can test fully operational Sesotec systems with their own materials.
Generational Shift and Continued Growth
Karl Eibl and Helmuth Frisch served as managing directors until 2013, celebrating their retirement with the honor of the company being recognized in the "Bavaria's Best 50" competition. To ensure a smooth succession, Eibl, Frisch, Dittrich, and Greipl sold their shares in 2011 to the Munich-based investment firm VTC, which partners with mid-sized companies to support their long-term, independent growth.
Rebranding
As part of our international expansion, we updated our company name: From 2005 to March 2015, we operated as S+S Separation and Sorting Technology GmbH. Since April 2015, we are known as Sesotec.
ISO Certification
Sesotec achieves certification to DIN EN ISO 9001:2015
