At IFAT 2026, taking place from May 4 to 7 in Munich, Sesotec GmbH will showcase its latest technologies for precise material sorting in recycling under the theme "Economy meets Ecology." Visitors can find the company in Hall B5, Booth 415. The focus will be on sensor and AI-based technologies for sorting complex material streams in plastic and glass recycling.
A highlight of our trade show presence is AI-powered sorting technologies designed for challenging recycling streams: NIR-Ai and OBJECT-Ai. By leveraging artificial intelligence, materials can be identified and classified with greater precision—especially when traditional sensor technologies fall short. This stabilizes sorting processes, reduces material loss, and enhances the quality of recycled products.
Solution for Sorting Black Plastics
Introducing VARISORT+ CARBON BLACK by Sesotec: a groundbreaking solution for sorting black plastics. Traditional NIR sorting technologies often struggle to detect carbon-black materials, posing a long-standing challenge in plastic recycling. Meanwhile, the demand for high-quality black recyclates is on the rise.
Our integrated MIR sensor technology ensures the reliable detection and precise separation of carbon-black polymers. This enables the production of premium black recyclates, boosting yield and enhancing the efficiency of recycling processes.
Seamless Sensor Integration with VARISORT+ FLEX
Introducing the VARISORT+ FLEX measurement bridge by Sesotec—a breakthrough solution for seamlessly integrating advanced sensor technology into your existing sorting systems. Tailored to your needs, this technology is available as the complete VARISORT+ UNITY system with an integrated conveyor and ejection unit, or as a standalone sensor module paired with an air-blast bar.
The VARISORT+ FLEX measurement bridge not only analyzes but also executes sorting tasks. During operation, it continuously monitors material composition at various points within the system. Real-time analysis of incoming materials runs concurrently with the active sorting program, providing detailed insights into material and color distribution. This allows for immediate detection of changes and enables flexible, efficient adjustments to the sorting program.
Built with durability and equipped with integrated protection against contamination, the FLEX measurement bridge ensures stable and reliable sorting even under challenging conditions. It also boasts low maintenance requirements—necessary upkeep is infrequent and easy to perform.
The FLEX measurement bridge offers a seamless upgrade or modernization of existing systems. Operators can strategically enhance their sorting lines and integrate new sensor technologies without the need to replace entire systems.
Modular System for Diverse Applications
The VARISORT+ sorting system is built on a modular framework, offering adaptable solutions for diverse sorting needs—whether it's plastics, WEEE, metals, or specialized applications like films. Depending on your application, the system can be retrofitted to existing conveyor systems, deployed as a complete solution like VARISORT+ UNITY, or customized for unique applications such as VARISORT+ WEEE or VARISORT+ FILM, each with tailored sensor, air-blast, and hardware configurations.
Efficient 3-Way Sorting for Superior Glass Quality
For glass processing, Sesotec's subsidiary KRS Recycling Systems GmbH introduces the SPEKTRUM+ 3S glass sorting system. This advanced system combines all the proven benefits of SPEKTRUM+ technology and adds the capability to divide input materials into three fractions—offering maximum flexibility in glass recycling.
SPEKTRUM+ 3S stands out with its high detection accuracy, even with fine glass, and precise separation thanks to fast and durable valve technology. Intelligent image processing minimizes false identifications and ensures minimal glass loss.
Optionally, the Dual-Sensor System C-C enhances detection, especially for black glass and complex sorting tasks. Its free-fall detection makes the system suitable for both dry and wet materials.
The modular multi-sensor system allows for flexible adjustments and upgrades (FLASH version). Alternatively, the SPEKTRUM+ BASIC offers a simple, non-expandable entry-level solution.
"IFAT is one of the most important platforms for innovations in recycling," says Tobias Eder, Head of Technologies & Plastics at Sesotec. "With VARISORT+ CARBON BLACK, we present a technology that addresses one of the biggest challenges in plastic recycling: the reliable sorting of carbon-black plastics. This opens up new possibilities for obtaining high-quality black recyclates and closing material loops effectively." Jens Astfalk, Head of Sales and Key Account Management Sorting, adds: "Our ongoing dialogue with customers beyond long-term equipment operation is at the heart of our development. We focus on delivering reliable solutions for real-world problems and challenges. And once again, we demonstrate this at IFAT."
