Detecting contaminants in noodles, spaetzle and other pasta products

Producing pasta always comes with the risk of contaminants getting into the products, which can result from contaminated raw materials, careless staff and machine wear. As a result, more and more manufacturers are using contaminant detectors. Our metal detection systems and X-ray scanners detect and remove contaminants, and they do so reliably, cost-efficiently and entirely automatically.

Why is contaminant detection important in pasta production?

Lawmakers, retailers and customers exert great pressure on manufacturers to ensure that food is safe and contaminant-free. BRC and IFC certification, plans for hazard analysis and critical control points, and audits are all vital to guaranteeing a positive image and sales opportunities for companies. Contaminant detection plays a key role here, because there is always a risk that contaminants will end up in products during the production process. This may be the result of careless employees, of wear from the processing machines made largely out of stainless steel or of  raw materials that are contaminated themselves.

What kinds of contaminants could appear?

Several examples include:

  • Objects belonging to machine operators
  • Metal abrasion in conveyor pipes
  • Metal abrasion from processing machines
  • Machine breakage
  • Small stones (found in raw materials)
  • Plastics
  • Glass fragments


Where and how do pasta manufacturers use our machines?

Our metal detectors and X-ray systems are used for tasks such as the following:

  • During the inspection of incoming goods to check raw materials such as flour and semolina
  • To inspect the dough during processing, for example before calenders, dough presses and punch machines
  • In the outgoing goods area for the final quality check after packaging
