Sorting and quality assurance for recycling glass

Glass can be recycled any number of times without a loss in quality, but glassworks have high standards when it comes to fragment quality. Sesotec systems help recycling companies to meet strict requirements. Why is glass recycled?

In Germany, nearly 2 million tonnes of used glass ends up in collection containers each year. That is how it should be, because glass is the perfect product for recycling. As a material, it is 100 per cent recyclable and can be melted down over and over, and turned into new products. Doing so saves energy and raw materials, such as silica sand, soda and lime. In addition, used glass does not need to be landfilled.

What are the challenges?

Glassworks have high standards when it comes to fragment quality. To produce clear glass, they need fractions with a homogeneous colour to use as raw material. For brown and green glass, a certain amount of cullet with the wrong colour cannot be exceeded. In addition, the used glass cannot contain any contaminants, such as ceramic, stones, porcelain or metal, as they do not melt and will adversely affect the quality of the final product during further processing. Separating leaded or heat-resistant glass, as found in teapots or glassware for cooking, requires special sensor expertise, as these types of glass do not necessarily look any different than normal glass.

How do Sesotec systems help you?

Our sorting systems separate cullet and create high-quality single-colour fractions out of mixed-colour glass fragments. Even heat-resistant or special leaded glass is safely and reliably removed. Sesotec systems also remove all contaminants. Magnets and metal separators remove caps, closures and other metal pieces from the material flow. Using cameras, the sorting systems also identify and eliminate foreign material, such as ceramic, stones and porcelain.


What are the advantages of our systems?

With Sesotec sorting systems, you can achieve recycling rates of up to 100 per cent. They ensure maximum throughput, precision and safety when recycling container glass, flat glass and special types of glass. Greater throughput levels, less loss of material and higher product quality increase added value. As a result, installation of the equipment amortises rapidly.

The special design of the glass-sorting systems lowers glass breakage and facilitates installation in small spaces, which is a real advantage when retrofitting or expanding your set-up. Our sorting systems are also sturdy,
